James G. Waian is an associate with the law firm of Riedl, McCloskey & Waring LLP. Mr. Waian's practice involves all aspects of complex insurance coverage analysis, counseling, and litigation, including the interpretation of commercial general liability, directors and officers, professional liability, and property policies. Mr. Waian has extensive experience and a special expertise in environmental issues, including hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal issues, hazardous substance and hazardous/solid waste regulation and site remediation, water quality and air quality regulation, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) issues, employee exposure issues, environmental aspects of business and real estate transactions, oil and gas development issues, water rights issues, environmental aspects of international transactions, and environmental law on Indian reservations.
Mr. Waian received his B.S. (1985) in Forestry and Resource Management from the University of California, Berkeley and his J.D. (1989) from the University of Michigan. Mr. Waian received a Certificate in Natural Resources Law from the University of New Mexico in 1989. Mr. Waian received a Diploma in Latin American Legal Systems from the University of Guanajuato School of Law (Guanajuato, Mexico) in 1989 and a Certificate of Proficiency in the Portuguese Language from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in 2000. Mr. Waian is a member of the California bar and he is admitted to practice in all federal courts in California.
Mr. Waian lived for several years in Brazil. Mr. Waian is fluent in Portuguese and proficient in Spanish.
